I am not going to deny it, but I am felt really chuffed with
myself today.
First of all, Martin woke me abut 6.45, and then as he still
wasn’t feeling right went straight back to bed. I though got Betsy and drove to
the nearest tyre repair centre for a replacement for the damaged tyre, courtesy
of the Skeleton Coast Road. As the tyres are extra wide they are quite
expensive, but I managed to agree on a used tyre, that should be good for the
miles left for £70. Bargain.
Found this on the way so had to be done.
I then went to a repair centre, “Steenbras” and left Betsy
for them to repair the exhaust, damaged steering and the clutch. I headed back
to Sam’s for breakfast and to wait. After breakfast Martin wanted to watch the
cricket, SA v Aus, which I had no interest in but almost as soon as it was on he
promptly fell asleep.
I though headed back into to town to do some exploring, where
I managed to buy some new flip flops (Reef so quite chuffed) and found the
Namibian equivalent of Whole Foods. Really cool food store that I was able to
while away another hour or so whilst the truck was getting repaired. Then onwards
to Steenbras to see how the works were doing. Surprised to say all completed
and ready to go by 12. Even better news only £50. Brilliant .
I returned chuffed with my productive morning to pick up
Martin settle our bill and head on to Windhoek.
As Martin was gutted about my new flip flops, he has been
complaining all trip about his Reefs being stolen on the boat over, we went
back to the store and pair number 2 were purchased. Another happy customer.
The journey was relatively easy with good roads, but it was really
interesting to feel how fiercely hot (I would say late 30’s early 40’s) the
temperature got as soon as we left the coast and headed in land. Again, between
the towns there really is hardly anybody to be seen and it is just another
reminder how sparsely populated this country is. Eerily vacant.
Windhoek seems like a lovely city although not as busy or built
up in the CBD as I was expecting. However, like all cities it does provide good
eating and drinking establishments as we found out in Joe’s beer house. A local
favourite and a well reported establishment in the lonely Planet.
So, all in all a good day until Charlie emailed me about my
Scooter being stolen from our driveway. Oh well insurance claim tomorrow.
Great day Ian. Like the sign. Hopefully a good omen for Chelsea tomorrow.
