07/03/18

After a reasonable night’s sleep at the ABC Guest House we set off, relatively early, without breakfast which was a major call for Martin. We filled the tank up, checked the water and oil and then stopped at a local supermarket so Martin stock up. Then on for some flip flop purchase, and then away. Martin being sorted for the journey got out his new map and plotted the way ahead.

I am pleased to report that the roads were back to the standard we were expecting, and we managed to drive 390 km to Rundu. We could have gone on but hey what’s the point as we are ahead of schedule. The town is more sophisticated than we have been used to outside the capitals, with good shops, restaurants and most importantly good internet we are reliably informed. Let’s wait and see on the last point.

More delicious road side cuisine. Fried grubs.

They also take Visa, Yeah..

We seem to have crossed the Zambezi a few times  but effectively we have been driving along a narrow strip between Botswana and Angola. I was keen to have a look at the latter but Martin wasn’t happy. Anyway, we have pitched up at a lovely little hotel in xxxx which sits on the banks of the Zambezi over looking Angola, so I suppose that’s good enough.

The rooms are amazing and I seem to have ended up with what could be best described as a penthouse suite. Lovely jubbly.

Betsy has performed exceptionally today and is due another wash which we will do as soon as we get the chance. For now, a couple of bottles of Chenin Blanc chilling in the fridge for sun downers, followed by a hearty supper in the hotel.

Oh yes, it appears we have left the rainy season behind as we have travelled West, so glorious African blue skies and lots of sun cream.

 What a life 😉.
