13/03/18
Bye Bye Windhoek, it was short and sweet. We both though
enjoyed Joes Beer house last night and the conversation we struck up with the
SA cattle byer.
It was a very early start more than anything to keep up with
the blog.
Anyway, after an early breakfast we were due to cover 400km
to Keetmanshoop. I’ve never heard of it either but is on the way to Luderitz apparently
where we definitely want to go to see the wild horses and the ocean one more
time before we start heading towards SA.
However, before we had really started we realised that we
had another clutch problem and apparently a power steering problem, so another
quick stop and hey presto £25 later we are on our way. I’m really hoping this
is not going to become a recurring theme.
It was as usual a dead straight road with little or no
company. The temperature by mid-afternoon became unbearable, and as we have no
working aircon it means the windows are down and the wind noise becomes very irritating.
However, we made good time, albeit for a
couple of stops, one because I was so tired so needed a strong coffee and the
other to make sure provisions and fuel are topped up.
At the first opportunity we stopped at another garage and
got the aircon serviced. Wow what a difference, I don’t know why we have been
such plonkers all this time. At least we should be OK for the Namib desert
tomorrow.
We found a lovely little B&B in what is a very small
town. Not much happening tonight except a bit of TV and dinner at Steers (think
McDonalds), the only place open here. Not a bad thing as I really am quite
tired tonight.
Early start tomorrow and can’t wait.
