We finally set off this morning with the truck fully loaded and full of fuel. What a fantastic feeling.
Heading straight South we headed to the border at Lunga -Lunga about 100 miles. Really easy journey and the border crossing was surprisingly easy. About 30 mins. Let's hope they are all as easy but I suspect not.
On entry into Tanzania we were amazed how good the roads were, apart from the hardly viewable speed bumps. After a few early scares we got the measure of them. Phew.
For lunch we went to Tanga with little to no money. It is typical African town with loads of stalls but no restaurants to talk about. Martin was getting particularly tetchy until he bought a banana and samosa.
Banks are proving to be a challenge and ATMs, unless they are international banks, will swallow your card. so we are very careful.
We did however find a café and had what Martin described was the worse meal he had ever eaten. My was a the underside of a boiled chicken carcus with bottom attached. I didn't eat it.
We then headed east towards Kili and the mountains. WOW. Spectacular. Knowing we weren't going to make Arusha we pulled off and went 30k into the mountains to Luhoto. You would not imagine for a second that you were Tanzania.
Anyway found lovely little hotel with hot water and hot dinner. Can't wait.
250 miles done and a good rest awaiting.
Apologies for lack of photos but wifi is sooo slow I can't wait to down load or I'll be here all night
What's in the back of the truck? You can't have that much luggage! Looks amazing, love the blog & pictures especially. Cheers, Paul M
